This piece holds a special place in my heart—it’s the second artwork I ever sold! I created it as my senior contemporary art project, where it won 2nd place at the senior art show. It’s also the largest piece I’ve ever done using alcohol-based markers.
What makes this artwork unique is that it’s entirely created with tints of grey—no linework at all. I started with a graphite pencil outline and erased it as I worked, letting the shapes emerge through shading. The reference came from an "Arizona Highways" magazine, but the stone/rock in the bottom left corner wasn’t part of the original image. Shading and improvising that section was the most challenging part, but I’m proud to say I executed it exactly as I envisioned!
This piece is a true testament to pushing boundaries and trusting the creative process.
